Kiddush

Kiddush is a vital time for our community to connect and socialize. We rely on community members to support this important function so that we can mark meaningful milestones, welcome familiar and new faces, and extend the warmth and joy of spending Shabbat and holidays together.

Kiddush sponsors pay for the cost of the food. Our kiddush team has a variety of “packages” of both grocery and catering options at different price points, including some that go beyond cold dairy foods and include hot food, bread, or meat items (always with a vegetarian option). While we require that sponsors select one of the available packages, sponsors are welcome to get creative and add on additional items. Co-sponsoring or organizing groups to sponsor is welcome, and we are happy to help match people up to sponsor together.

Have questions? Check out the FAQs below.

Kiddush volunteers set up and clean up the food on Saturday mornings. Volunteers generally choose a kiddush shift once every 6 weeks.

To sponsor or volunteer, please fill out the form below or email kiddush@khsz.org and our kiddush team will follow up with you!

Kiddush FAQs

Anyone in the community is welcome to sponsor kiddush, either alone or with co-sponsors.

Many people sponsor for birthdays or other milestones, but we appreciate your sponsorship for any reason, or for no reason at all.

A snack-based kiddush starts at $290. Catered kiddushes start at $615.

  • We can offer a snack-based kiddush at a subsidized rate of $200. Please ask the kiddush team if you are interested in this.
  • Co-sponsorship is a great way to lower costs. We’d be happy to help match you with co-sponsors.

We have pareve, dairy, and meat packages available HERE.

While we no longer offer a full DIY option most weeks, you are welcome to purchase packaged, kosher items and/or uncut fresh fruit as an add-on to any of the packages.

  • As far in advance as you’d like, but at least 3-4 weeks is recommended.
  • The kiddush team will reach out to you about two weeks ahead of time to check in about your preferred package.
  • Final orders are due the Tuesday before your planned kiddush.
  • Tell you how you’d like to be acknowledged in our announcements.
  • If you are choosing a snack-based kiddush (Package 1) and/or contributing add-ons that require prep (such as fruit that needs to be washed), we request that you consider assisting the volunteers with setup.
  • Donate to the shul for the cost of the kiddush. Our synagogue administrator will invoice you after Shabbat.
  • You are welcome to take home leftover food, or we can keep closed non-perishable items for future kiddushes.
  • No! Kiddush is not expected to be lunch.
  • If you’d like to do a kiddush lunch, most of the packages can be expanded into a more substantial lunch with bread. If you are interested in this, we ask that the menu be finalized at least a week in advance.

Email the kiddush team at kiddush@khsz.org or fill out the form above and let us know your preferred date(s), and whether you’re interested in being matched with a co-sponsor.
